Dr. Oen Hospital, large scale hospital located in Solo, Indonesia. |
 |
The Challenge
|
 |
| |
Technical Challenge |
| |
Dr. Oen Hospital had previously implemented a hospital software solution, but it only last 1 year before the system stalled, because of the massive transaction generated by this large scale hospital. When we were in charge of the whole system development we have to build a robust and 100% stable system that could cope up to 100.000 transactions in each 24 hours (more than one transaction each second). There would be no toleration to any stall or system slow-down.
The demand of future expansion and mobility was one of their top priority, hence the system should be a web based. Dr. Oen managerial staffs wanted to have the capability of logging in to the system from anywhere.
|
| |
Business Challenge |
 |
| |
Our first challenge in Dr. Oen hospital is to optimize the whole process, although it had some experiences in using computer-based management system, yet the process was not optimized in the perspective of enterprise; too many redundant work, or not effective process flow.
Dr. Oen has 24 main divisions; the other challenge was to make the system to be seamlessly integrated one to each other.
|
| |
Implementation Challenge |
 |
| |
The hospital had hundreds of employee that will use the system, most of them did not have any idea of how to use the computer, and the rest had some experiences of using the previous hospital system.
|
| The Solution |
 |
| |
Technical Solution |
| |
We were convinced based on the requirement, the most suitable platform for this large enterprise system was Java, since the client did not need to have separate application servers, then we use Tomcat as our web server and the open-source PostgreSQL as our database server.
And we used the robust and fully-fledged framework available, Spring and object relational mapping Hibernate, to enhance the performance to the next level with optimizing data cache and accelerate the development process. |
| |
Business & Implementation Solution |
 |
| |
Our team adopted a four-phased approach to mitigate risk and Agile Development Methodology, given the scale of the project and large people on the client side that was involved in the project. The four phases include Proof-of-Concept, Pilot Project, Pilot Expansion and Hands-On Modules..
|
| |
| 1. |
Analysis and Consulting – Proof of Concept |
| |
We analyze the whole system by interviewing heads of division and the operational staffs. And based on the old hospital system we analyze the weaknesses and optimize the operational flow.
On this phase we focused on creating solutions based on our analysis and propose the Proof of Concept to the client.
|
| |
|
| 2. |
Pilot Project |
| |
The Pilot Project was based on the P-O-C; we demonstrated the process flow and pre-release screen to the users, so they got the picture of the system at the initial stage.
We encouraged every user to give us feedback at this phase; after we reviewed the feedback we released the updates of Pilot Project. This phase was a subject of repetition.
|
| |
|
| 3. |
Pilot Expansion |
| |
Successful demonstrations of the concept lead to building the project functionally.
|
| |
|
| 4. |
Hands-On Modules |
| |
Every module release, we created a real process scenario and invited corresponding end-users to try the new module, and asked for the feedback. The end-users were rotated; hence all users on the hospital will be familiar with the new system in the end of the project.
